Election 2024 BJP MP Sushil Modi on Wednesday said he will not be able to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as he has been battling cancer for the last six months. The BJP leader said that he also informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about this development. The 72-year-old former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar also said that he made this announcement now because he felt the time had come to tell people. Sushil Modi has made this announcement at a time when the party is facing the Lok Sabha elections and to achieve the so-called target of 400, candidates are being fielded thoughtfully on every seat. Sushil Modi was once considered worthy of being made the Chief Minister by BJP. Sushil Modi is also known as a skilled organizer in Bihar. MP Sushil Modi also said that he will always be grateful to the country, Bihar and the party. Reacting to Sushil Modi's announcement, BJP leader and party MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said he was "deeply saddened". He said, I wish him a speedy recovery. Sushil Modi served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar from July 2017 to November 2020. In December 2020, he was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar to fill the seat vacant following the demise of Lok Janshakti Party supremo Ram Vilas Paswan in October. 2020 due to prolonged illness. Modi is an old friend of JDU chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, having served as his deputy for nearly 11 years. Unmesh Patil on Wednesday announced his joining of the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT). Patil reached 'Matoshree', the residence of former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai and announced his participation. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said that with Patil joining the party, its prospects in Jalgaon and North Maharashtra will be strengthened and the path to victory will become easier. Uddhav's Shiv Sena is part of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), which also includes Sharad Pawar's NCP and Congress. Under the seat-sharing agreement of the MVA, the Jalgaon seat has been allotted to Shiv Sena (UBT). If Uddhav Thackeray decides to field Patil, Jalgaon, which is historically a BJP stronghold, may see tough competition. Patil had secured an impressive number of over 7 lakh votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Patil had defeated NCP's Gulabrao Deokar by more than 4 lakh votes. BJP has held this seat since 1999. Recently, Unmesh Patil came into limelight for his statements during the Maratha reservation movement. He is in the opposition faction of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis camp in Maharashtra BJP. That is why due to strong opposition from Fadnavis, the BJP high command canceled Patil's ticket this time. However, Patil got a good number of votes in 2019, which is mentioned above. The BJP will contest the five-phase Lok Sabha elections between April 19 and May 20 as a party of the Mahayuti (grand alliance) along with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party's Ajit Pawar faction.
