TMC MP Mahua Moitra

TMC MP Mahua Moitra, facing charges in the Cash for Query case, appeared before the Ethics Committee of Parliament today. During this time, the committee members asked her questions regarding taking money in exchange for questions in the Parliament, and then Mahua came out fuming. During this, he said that the Ethics Committee was asking me dirty questions. Also, in response to a question, he showed his eyes to the reporters and asked, can you see tears in my eyes? Mahua accused the panel chairman of asking personal and unethical questions to the TMC MP.

According to sources, Moitra termed all the allegations leveled against her as baseless and declared herself innocent. He told the parliamentary committee that the allegations were motivated by the enmity of lawyer Jai Ananth Dehadrai, as he had broken his personal relations with him. It is being told that in the Ethics Committee meeting, Moitra got the support of some opposition MPs including Congress MP and panel member N Uttam Kumar Reddy, BSP’s Danish Ali. Whereas some BJP members including VD Sharma wanted him to answer the allegations.

According to sources, a major part of her statement before the Ethics Committee was about her relationship with Dehadrai, as she appeared to be blaming him for the allegations in the case. Citing Dehadrai’s plea, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey filed a complaint against him with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who referred the matter to the committee.

Moitra rejected all the allegations

Earlier, TMC MP Mahua Moitra had said that anyone can make allegations, but the onus is always on the complainant to prove the allegations. I have read the affidavit submitted to the Ethics Committee of Parliament. There is no mention in the affidavit that I was given Rs 2 crore in cash. Mahua Moitra also rejected all the allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.

‘State the date when the cash was given’

While talking to India Today, Mahua had said that if I was given cash in exchange for asking questions, then please also mention the date when this happened. Also said to provide all the documentary evidence. Mahua also criticized Nishikant Dubey for his allegation that businessman Darshan Hiranandani had given him cash to raise questions against PM Modi and Gautam Adani in the Lok Sabha.

Why did she appear before the Ethics Committee?

In the Cash for Query case, TMC MP Mahua Moitra was summoned to Parliament by the Ethics Committee of Parliament to appear on October 31. Ethics Committee Chairman Vinod Sonkar said that the committee had called BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and lawyer Jai Ananth Dehadrai for questioning. Those people have appeared. Mahua Moitra, on the other hand, had sought time to appear. In fact, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused Moitra of “taking bribes for asking questions” in Parliament on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani to target the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
